Problems downloading charts

Hello,

I am rather new on this project and have downloaded the Opensea software and the charts of the Netherlands. As I intent to travel next year via German wad, Kieler kanaal to the Eastsea, I wanted to download these chart as well.
If I follow the procedure I get a long list with information but the information is not placed and saved  in the defined map.
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks in advance,

Joh. Dijkstra

What procedure?

What kind of information?

What are you looking for? As far as I understand for maps for a specific region of Germany. What map format do you need?

Re: Problems downloading charts

Hello Axel, Thanks for your reaction.

I have downloaded OpenCPN (using the procedure on http://www.nautin.nl/handleidingen/opencpn/WebHelp/) and have all the charts from the Netherlands downloaded as well. The chart files have the extension .000

Now I want to prepare my trip for next year via the German shallow water islands and via the Nord East canal to the Baltic sea as we want to visit Denmark.
What I do is the following. I go to map.openseamap.org/ click on tools, select download and select kap format and the area on the large map which I need and then download starts.
But the file I get is a list of information like: RGB/1,13,15 etc.

I wonder what I am doing wrong. The maps I need do need to have the extention.000

I do not think that you are doing things wrong here.
I tried the described way downloaded some maps in the kap format and can view them with OpenCPN (Version 4.1; Ubuntu 15.10)

Why?

The files I downloaded have the extension .kap and work with OpenCPN.

But the file I get is a list of information like: RGB/1,13,15 etc.

I do not know what kap files have to look like, but the files a have tested look similar:

Re: Problems downloading charts

Hello Axel,
I have used an other browser and have been able to download the files in to my OSM folder.
Problem now is that if I zoom in I get a Overzoom indication in the left upper corner of the screen and the information on the map is deformed. If this could be solved I will be very happy...
Thanks in advance,
Johan

Re: Problems downloading charts

Alex, what I have noticed as well is that the maps of the Netherland which I have earlier downloaded have a green frame and the recent maps (with the Overzoom problem) have a red frame..

Re: Problems downloading charts

Hello Johan,

currently we set up a new process to create KAP charts and to offer complete KAP chart bundles for download.

It very well may be that the problems you had with the KAP files are solved, or unfortunately we intruduced other mistakes in the process. I would like to ask you, if you are willing to do some testing of the new bundles.

There is not yet an official way to download the bundles from the website, that may take until after the 'boot' in Düsseldorf next week.

But if you are comfortable with ftp access, you already can get the bundles from

ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetm … ndles/kap/

All bundles with 2016 date are current, the 2015s bundle are some 'old' testdata'.

We will extend the available bundles as fast as possible, and especially we are looking for input about what is reasonable to bundle into one single download.

Re: Problems downloading charts

Hello Alexej,

First of all thanks for your input and reply.
I have downloaded the charts from the link you gave me. What I received are .kap and .bsb charts. For each area a .kap and .bsb chart.
Then I synchronized (Force rebuilding the database) Open CPN with the new charts.
After opening up the chart for more detail the program Open CPN failed and I have removed the software and re-installed it. But still the program is not working.
My first impression, noticed in the short time, is that the overzoom problem still exist. I am afraid that has something to do with the type of chart I have downloaded.
I have charts of the Netherlands and they have a.000 extension but the charts of the Baltic sea have a .kap extension. Probably something to do with vector or raster chart? I am not that familiar with chart types but I don't have the overzoom problem with the .000 extension charts.

With best regards,
Johan

Re: Problems downloading charts

Alexej,

Additional information. I have removed the charts which I downloaded from your link and now the OpenCPN program is running well and as before...
It seems the noted failure has something to do with the new charts.

With best regards,
Johan
